Moctezuma’s Mexican Restaurant & Tequila Bar Menu

Sorry, We are updating this restaurant menu details.

I brought my daughter in here. She got a kids quesadilla and a side of fresh and tasty fruit. I had a chicken quesadilla and gave me the option of grilled or shredded chicken (you can also get beef.. or other sides) Service was nice, and they had home made salsa and warm chips while you waited. I needed ample time to look over the menu and they gave it to me with out feeling like I was waiting too long or too short of time. Food came out in a excellent time, although we were there at lunch time and it was not busy.. If I am in the area again I will defiantly stop here again. Best part of here? The decor! Beautiful! Felt like I walked into "the Book of Life"

Let me start by saying that the customer service was fantastic and the staff is very attentive and friendly. We sat in the bar area, so we didn't have to wait for a table, and we're immediately greeted by the bar tender and a waitress brought us chips and dip. So all in all, the people working here were the only redeeming factor at this restaurant, and really are the reason this place is getting even two stars. I ordered a fajita burrito and my boyfriend ordered a chimichonga. It was unbelievable how much cilantro and tomatoes were dumped on my burrito. I had to dig to uncover my burrito under a mountain of tomatoes and cilantro. So much wet sauce was on top of my burrito that it rendered it soggy and the tortilla simply just fell apart and sat in a pool of cilantro and tomato juices on my plate. The couple slices of steak inside were decent, but too few were present to redeem the burrito. I gave up trying to eat it when the tortilla was shredded into pieces. My boyfriend had a chimichonga that looked as it wasn't even fried, as it too was all soggy and laden with juices. He was completely let down by it. I don't expect too much from a Mexican restaurant in Gig Harbor, but the food here was very disappointing even with that bar set so low. It was the great staff here that made me hold my tongue and not complain, as it was not their fault and I never want to be "that customer."

20 years ago, in high school, I really enjoyed this place. So when I was back in town visiting family, I thought I'd stop by. My, how things have changed. The restaurant looks very nice, and the service was fine. But the food was just not very good at all. We got queso dip, which was about the best thing I had there. Most everything else was disappointing. The ground beef tasted like canned Sloppy Joe mix. The enchiladas rancheras tasted like they had been topped with ranch dressing. Even the salsa had a bitter edge to it. It was not an enjoyable meal. This is not a place I'd recommend going. I'll just have to reminisce about how good Moctezuma's was back when I was a kid.

Used to be my favorite "hole in the wall" years ago when it was across the street by Safeway (which is now Haggens and that's a whole other ball of wax...). It's still the best game in town. I always get their carne asada. Every time. I'm up on family business from Hawaii. And before that we've been living in San Diego. Nowhere else that I've been does carne asada like moctezumas. It's the best. Perfectly seasoned. The right amount of char. And they actually don't cook it to well-done. I hate over cooked meat. The new atmosphere is pretty upscale. It's attracted quite the crowd. Seems to be popular at all times. When it first reopened you couldn't get in here without a long wait. Now it's still busy, even for lunch on a Thursday. Which is great for them. But I kinda miss the quiet atmosphere they had.. Oh well. The decor is spot on and the service is awesome! The major negative that I see is the "mild salsa" which pretty much tastes like watery ketchup. And has the same consistency. But... To each their own. It was a great stop off on my trip "home". Will be back every time we're in town. For reasons

The pollo chipotle was amazing, but unfortunately the service was terrible. We only met out server when he apologized for not helping us, then we never saw him again (the manager noticed we had not been helped and took our order.) I'll try again soon and see if the service problem was just a fluke.

I thought the portions were ample and the quality was very nice. The buildout of the physical plant is very nice as is the overall atmosphere. The server seemed a little indifferent to my kids and I but other than a little annoying it was just fine. At the end of the meal for lunch it was $100 including tip which I thought was pricey for 4 given it was lunch. Overall it was fine.

I can't believe some of the bad reviews! I've tried numerous menu items and they are all great. The best is the carnitas michucan. Real deal best carnitas I've ever had. They literally melt in your mouth leaving the taste of cinnamon and oranges as the after taste. The surf and turf is great too with bacon wrapped shrimp. Eat here before you die. The service is great and try the acupolco margarita. The biggest fault and only so far (I've been here over six times) is that they are always crowded. Especially the south center location. We drive from shoreline just to go here. I'll be back. Again and again...wait for it...and again.

Service was wonderful, cucumber mojito was very refreshing, best salsa around, food portions are enormous and everything was perfect I suggest the chipotle chicken enchiladas It's very clean and the decor is welcoming My only complaint is that we don't have one in federal way :)

The Apple Bee's of Mexican food. Just another chain shop in the area. They are very costly. For a family of 2 adults, and 3 kids under the age of 8 we walked out with a $60 bill. SO and I ordered very simple combos. We only got 2 kids meals. SO got a margarita. We all had water (kids cannot keep the plastic disposable kids cups or crayons I was told because it is all reused, eww!) The tamales were okay. I cook a better tamale any day of the week, but it is a lot of time to make a tamale and I have to make like 50 of them when I do. That is a convenience of a restaurant is that I can have a tamale. The ambiance and atmosphere was nice. It is unreasonable to eat here more than once a year after a tip it came to $70. That is a lot for just 2 adult simple one and two item combos and 2 kids meals. I won't be back, sorry.

We have found our new go to Mexican restaurant. Family friendly. Awesome chips and salsa. The quest dip was amazing. I had steak fajitas and a margarita. Delicious We are so excited to find a really good Mexican restaurant!!! Definitely recommend.

Nice place. There service takes a little too long though! I asked a waiter for some chips and they came back 15 min later saying "sorry we forgot!" But the food is great! love the fire place and it's very warm! The chips and salsa are very good. The kids menu needs more things instead of chicken and greese. It is a little more expensive than other restaurants.

Not bad for a "chain" type Mexican restaurant. I had the chicken mole. The mole sauce was really good. Instead of pieces of chicken in the sauce there were two chicken breasts in the mole sauce. I also had the margarita that was on happy hour. It was one of the best margaritas I've had in a while aka strong. I would go back again!

The atmosphere inside is awesome. As is the food, a typical Mexican style menu with a fresh grilled flair. Prices are slightly hirer than others and the wait is longer... But if you're prepared the food is worth it. Happy hour is hands down fantastic.

Great bar. Solid happy hour drink and food menu. Not impressed with their street tacos. Expensive and I have had better out of street vendors.

The salsa was more like marinara sauce, had to augment the sweet flavor with dashes of their deathly habanero salsa, by special request. The server insulted my fiance when she asked to remove items from a burrito...a seemingly simple request. The server then upcharged us for less food. He then neglected to ask about side options for my meal, and left us hanging. A very flavorless $30 sober experience.

My wife had been here before and asked to make a special trip across the bridge for our date night. Starting with the good - I actually like the atmosphere - chain look to it but it was sort of dark and marginally intimate with the lighting. They have a number of color lights that add a feel and the service was great - far better than most Mexican restaurants. It is a noisy atmosphere in the restaurant and better acoustics would not hurt but tolerable. Now the bad - the food. I did not like the Tortilla soup at all - it has a strong tomato taste to it - vs chicken broth. We talked to one of the waiters and he agreed - "not like his Mexican Mom makes". I did like the way they serve it - broth is in a pitcher to be added at the table. The chips in the soup were small and became soggy immediately - I prefer when they have tortilla strips they put on top with lots of cheese. At best a 1 star soup. My wife did not like the taco meat - it had a spice that apparently she did not care for but the fiesta queso dip was good. I also do not like how they nickel/dime you for everything. Chips, beans for dipping, etc. Not a lot of cost - but just seems in poor taste to me. The chips and salsa were good and you do get a lot of chips initially but we had to order more since we had the Queso Dip. Overall we will not come back - too many other places to choose from and basically we left most of our dinner at the table.

My husband and I love Moctezumas! Our favorite place for Mexican food used to be Chevy's (when they had the Tacoma location which has since closed). I'm quite convinced that this place is no doubt the best as far as authentic Mexican cuisine. They do have foods for those who are more into Tex Mex cuisine. We are pretty much regulars at the Tacoma location since we live closer to that one but since we were in town we figured let's go! I was prepared to compare but no doubt about it this location has the same tasty wonderful food, clean restaurant, great customer service standards, friendly staff and most important on my checklist is the Mexican Coca-Cola (a.k.a real sugar cane! the best)!!! Now, everyone is different, everyone has different taste buds and standards so keep an open mind if you are thinking about eating here. I said there is some Tex Mex and the rest is authentic Mexican cuisine. For you spicy food lovers, (and I don't mean Tabasco sauce spicy), you can enjoy a range of Habanero dishes! And who can't resist chips and salsa for starters when you are seated. The restaurant in comparison to the Tacoma is definitely seen in the exterior/interior design, as well as the plating of dishes, the staff and the crowd it brings. But like I said, different location but same great service and food. You won't be disappointed! Note for parents: this isn't exactly a place you'd bring your kids unless they love tacos and salsa and just authentic Mexican food. This isn't Taco Bell, bring your kids to places they'll enjoy eating at and save yourself the trip. Come alone with your significant other or with friends. Just Saying! Nothing against this restaurant because It's a family friendly environment but if you think your kids won't like it here they probably won't. Common knowledge people!

One of our favorite local happy hour spots, especially on Taco Tuesday. Staff is very friendly, food is fairly consistent (if it's not they will gladly take care of it). Ambiance and interiors are great. Separate adults only bar area is a nice choice.

I have not gone as often as I have in the past, and our last experience was a huge disappointment. My Sister-in-law was visiting from out of state, and thought we'd go to Montezuma's, as it was my favorite place to go. A group of 6 ordered in a timely manner. It seemed a bit for the drinks to arrive, . And maybe should have been as clue. While waiting, another table had fajitas come and were burning. The guy kept stirring them and the room quickly began to fill with smoke. My SIL had to get up and leave due to her health. She came back and then our food finally arrived. My BIL had to send his food back because it looked and tasted nothing like chili rellenos (sp?). The rest of the food was ediblebut had an unusual looking sauce. We asked the waiter if it was a news sauce? No. New cook? No. Taste wasn't the same. Maybe it was an off night, but it will be a long while before we venture in again.

My sweetie pie and I have always sat at the bar and we have no complaints on service or for quality. Drinks menu is perfect and we have found that this is a nice place to watch a game... Or two.

Margarita Monday was a blast. I wish they had bigger tables for groups but I guess since happy hour is only in the bar area, they limit the amour of people there. Margaritas were cheap and stiff during happy hour and the food was decent. Flautas were crispy and the guacamole was great. The chicken wigs left something to be desired and were slightly undercooked. Would definitely go again though.

You would think that a new and better restaurant means that you're paying for those costs but in actuality, everything is better and the prices are still worth the amount of food you get as well as a pocket full of sunshine in customer service. i would highly suggest the enchiladas rancheros. I couldn't decide on which meat so they let me do a mixture of all three. The sauce isn't too salty but just a good amount of flavor to keep you eating till everything is gone.

Last night was the first time I went to Moctezuma's and I probably wouldn't have chosen to go myself, but it was suggested by a friend so a group of us traveled there for dinner. Now first they do not take reservations on the weekend so we expected with a large party (about ten of us) that it would be a wait. Pulling in to the parking lot was proof enough that our prediction would be correct with no parking spaces available (the people I traveled with were lucky to come right as someone was pulling out!) and people waiting outside. Entering the crowded lobby we were told by the hostess the wait would be an hour and she took our name and gave us a pager. We were waiting for more friends to show so we decided it wouldn't be that bad and luckily had a bench to sit on inside (outside was a bit chilly). Also the adults in the party were allowed to grab drinks in the bar and come back to the lobby with them. Luckily the hosts were over quoting and we had a table before an hour was up...probably about 40 minutes which on a Friday night is not bad at all. Menus were in two piles on the table and after situating ourselves we were greeted by our server (and her name eludes me I apologize) and she introduces her partner who she says is in training tonight (I believe his name is Tony). She asks if anyone wanted drinks which we ordered and after quickly asking if we wanted a few minutes before ordering walked away. Our drinks were dropped off, but even though we were talking about appetizers none had been ordered yet. As the rest of our party showed up another group was seated on the other side of the room which also was being taken care of by our server and trainee. The new drinks were ordered and still no offer for appetizers. The tortillas and salsa and waters were replenished frequently and politely by several other staff members. When we placed our orders (which were separate checks), including appetizers, I found it a bit odd to be asked if I wanted the appetizer brought out before my meal. Usually, right? The food was brought out in a timely manner and although a few plates were mixed up most of us have a high tolerance for the slight mishaps as everything we ordered was there and nothing was missing. The amounts are huge and look very pretty and we all agreed everything tasted delicious. More detail of what I ordered - Strawberry blended margarita - I'm not sure what this trend is for serving margaritas in rocks glasses, but this was the second place that did it. Atleast here the flavour was very good and it was a refreshing drink. Appetizer Mexican Grilled Corn - this came out in it's own skillet topped with a sprinkling of cotija cheese and a side of sour cream. This was very tasty and a good size. I happily share my appetizers when I order them as I know I could never finish them and eat an entree. Main course I ordered the combination special with 2 cheese enchiladas which came with a small side salad with cilantro lime dressing. Due to my food allergies and caution of cross contamination this felt like my safest choice. It definitely has no presentation style, but I can not blame them for that. And as I was already pretty much full from the corn I ate about three bites. I am happy to say that I ate the leftovers for lunch and they still tasted good which I am happy with as we all know how leftovers can taste. I skipped dessert as I was too full, but wished I had tried their flan. Maybe next time. Checks were handed out and everyone was cashed out quickly. We stayed a bit longer joking and telling stories. I believe it was worth the trip, but I am still in search of the true Mexican food I miss from living in the Southwest. A few extra observations - The decor may be a bit cheesy and touristy, but it's still pretty with the soft lighting and multi lighted stars hanging from the ceiling. A friend called it High End Mexican (lol) I rated four stars due to the short wait for the size of our party and the food/drinks. I was not overly impressed by our server although her trainee was spot on and helpful. I hope he continues to be that way. The handle of my knife had a piece of dried food still on it and the restrooms needed some attention. But in the end I would happily come back especially with my friends.

A nice change of pace for Gig Harbor. Parking is rough most nights, and they have a couple of great shrimp and mushroom offerings, but in general, not a great experience. And the restaurant is really loud.

  • Kirsten S.

Meh. Was recommended to this place as the best mexican in gig harbor, but was pretty lackluster. Service was nice enough, but atmosphere felt chain-ish, like we were at a mexican TGI Fridays. They got my order all wrong, and the food just wasn't very flavorful. Service was friendly though. Go to El Pueblito. More authentic, and great views on the water.

Moctezuma's is hands-down the best Mexican Food and drinks west of Tacoma! My fiancée and I love their jalapeño margaritas (which come in a big cocktail shaker, so you can keep refreshing your glass). The Baja tacos are another one of our favorites (battered, deep-fried fish in a taco--what's not to like?). Their guacamole and house salsa are fresh and delicious--we always start with this. Their molcajete is quite a treat too--it comes out sizzling in a hot stone bowl with peppers, onions and a choice of meats/seafood in a rich, delicious broth. It's pretty big and is great for sharing. The only drawback is that this place has become so popular there can often be a wait to get a table! Even the bar gets totally packed. So, show up early or come a bit later if you don't want to hassle with the crowds.

Serviceable chain style type TexMex, but well above the quality that you'd find at the typical franchise restaurant. Service was friendly, competent and fast. If I had to sum it up, I kept thinking, "My mom would love this place."

As 17 years-long patrons of the Tacoma location, it was refreshing to try the new Gig Harbor location. Our first time visit to the Gig Harbor place was years ago when it was next to Safeway. They've since moved across the street in a stand alone building, spacious with an upscale feel. We sat in the bar, catching happy hour twice on a Saturday! 5pm before a football game and then at 9:30 after. We ordered shared crab enchiladas, one of our favorite original dishes, and the guacamole dip appetizer. Both looked and tasted the same as in Tacoma. However, the mango margarita I ordered was pleasantly stronger and mango-purée tasting. For the evening happy hour we decided to try items that weren't on the Tacoma menu - Rib-eye tacos and butternut squash taquitos. The three tacos were tender, juicy, and tasty (topped off w/avocado slices) ... the butternut squash taquitos were eh, pretty boringly bland. Will definitely get the tacos again, during HH t pay a few $ less. Service was still speedy. The atmosphere dim and warm with similar decor as in Tacoma. Very nice face-lift Mocta! I'll miss the hole-in-the-wall, cheap-priced place we used to frequent but am glad the upgrade kept most of its authenticity Only 4 stars because they took langostino (baby lobsters) enchiladas off the menu!

Been a couple times now and my family and I are big fans. Looks great, food is very good and we will definitely be going back multiple times. Molcajete was incredible, entire family loved it. Pollo a la crema was not the best I've had they use enchilada sauce in theirs which I am not a huge fan of, but very tender chicken. The nachos grande are a favorite too, dang good!

We were taken here by some friends who said they offered really good Mexican food. After hearing the name, I said "this place isn't like an Azteca is it?" (Not a fan of Azteca) They said "NO", so I said okay let's try it then. To my surprise, the experience was GREAT! The service was very good, and on a side note, the only time I don't mind not fully understanding the wait help is at Mexican restaurants. Maybe it helps signify authenticity (to me). The chips and salsa was good. My Burrito Especial (I chose pork carnitas) was VERY good!!! And LARGE!!! My kids had quesadillas and tacos, and while I did not sample theirs, they also said it was good! Of course we had to sample their fried ice cream to top it all off. And while I've had better, it was okay. I've had much worse... All-in-all, I would definitely go back there if we find ourselves in Gig Harbor again. In fact, we may just have to visit them again sooner rather than later

Had an outstanding happy hour meal, which we prefer. We can try numerous small plates and really get a good sense of the restaurant. We had the Mexican shrimp I the tomatillo sauce, the grilled asparagus, the chips with guacamole and pica de gallo, and finished with crane asada street tacos. All were outstanding. Very impressed by the food and the atmosphere. Upscale bar area with plenty of TVs if you want to watch a game. Highly recommend and we'll be back.

This was our first and probably last visit. Our server was nice. It was really the lackluster food that turned us off. The kids cheese quesadilla was fine. No frills. I appreciated that they had crayons to keep my child busy while we waited for our food. I ordered the spinach y portobello quesadilla. It was so oily I couldn't eat more than 1/6 of it. It seemed like they didn't drain off any of the sautéed veggies before slapping the quesadilla together. My husband got the grilled fish tacos. They were primarily filled with cabbage; hardly any fish at all. Pretty disappointing, but at that point we needed to go so we didn't ask the kitchen to try to make it right. Interestingly, the table next to us asked to speak to the manager on their way out. I'm not sure why, but the man didn't look very happy. Considering there are many other options when we pass through Gig Harbor for the same price, we'll likely go elsewhere in the future.

I went back to this place after they moved into the newer renovated space. It was a very different experience for me. Great menu options, great service and the new layout is much improved. Best Mexican in the Harbor. I really couldn't believe how different the experience was this time around.

The rating would have been higher if I was just rating them on food. However the service was horrible. Our waiter was in such a hurry to take our order that we could tell he wasn't paying attention. When the dinner arrived our kids meals were wrong and had to be redone. It took so long for the kitchen to remake a simple dish (nachos with cheese) that my wife and I had pretty much finished our dinners before theirs arrived. After flagging someone down at the end of our dinner we received our bill. We were charged for an extra drink and dinner that we didn't order. When we pointed out the error he acted bothered that we weren't willing to pay for food we didn't order. While I am still a fan of their food we probably won't be visiting the Gig Harbor location any time soon. The Tacoma location has the same food with much better service.

The best Mexican restaurant in Gig Harbor, Port Orchard or Bremerton. The food is fresh and very good. The tortilla soup is amazing!!! The refried beans are the best I've had in the United States. The amoroso here is amazing and the inside is very upscale and classy at prices the other places charge. Tip: the bathroom is really cool

I'm a seasoned veteran when it comes to eating at Moctezuma's. So trust me when I say, that the Carne Adobada is the best meal on the menu. Savory and sweet, this steak is a treat. Another favorite of mine is the Steak Picado. The chips and salsa are top notch, and I have never had an issue with the staff. Everyone is obviously well trained and on point. There's not a Mexican restaurant in the puget sound area that can compare to Moctezuma's

I have been here a couple of time now and have always had a good experience. The food is always good. So far, my favorite has been the squash taquitos. My least favorite was the posole. Way too much onion. This place has the BEST jalapeno margaritas. This was the first place I had one. Whenever I see one on a menu at a different restaurant, I have ordered them, and no one has compared to Moctezumas. The only reason this place does not get 5 stars is because they are generally slow and I always have to make sure I am not needing to be somewhere else anytime soon. Last time, I had to practically run out the door. If you usually take home food like I do, ask for a to go box once your food arrives along with the check unless you want dessert.

If I could give it a 0 I totally would have. Not one to normally post on these but this was to bad not to share. Went with a large group for dinner to celebrate and was greated by 4 extremely rude hostess's. Knowing we were a large group we called ahead and made sure that they were willing to accommodate a group that size. Upon arrival it was very apparent that they didn't want to be there or even try and pretend that they did. Then it seemed that the waiter's would make up for the rude and inconsiderate hostesses... Fail. We all got our food literally 15 to 20 minutes from each other. Cause when you go out with your friends for a meal who really wants to eat together right. They forgot to put in my order all together and to top it all off a friend found hair wrapped in her food YUCK. Once we told the waiter that she had found hair in her food he promptly took her plate and politely apologized. However would not remove it from our bill until we asked to speak with a manager. I would NEVER recommend this restaurant!!!!! Awful and by far one of the worst dinning experiences I have ever had.

Solid. I come here all the time. I actually love this place. Really great staff in the bar. I always get the Tortilla Soup and Butternut Squash Taquitos. However, if you have a large party for example a birthday in the restaurant area, I wouldn't recommend. They just can't handle it. Forget food, bring wrong food, bring cold food, don't take reservations so you have to wait forever. They have some kinks to work out, but this place is solid.

Since moving to Washington from San Diego, finding decent Mexican food has been a bit of a trial. We've eaten at any number of chains and local restaurants, but haven't found anywhere that really makes us say "¡auténtico!" Even asking locals, all we ever really get is a mumbled answer about "not really eating Mexican food." Enter Moctezuma's. Granted, judging by Southern California standards, they don't quite measure up. But, grading on a Washington curve, they are one of the best. The food is fresh and tasty. Portions are generous. Chips are crispy and salsa has a nice amount of burn. This location, in particular, is very nicely decorated inside and it feels very upscale. We've been in to eat, and we've done takeaway, and each time our food is tasty and well worth the price. This is my go-to Mexican restaurant.

Let me preface this be saying this is currently my favorite restaurant. Minutes from my house, I'm here -all- the time. I'm not the only one either, this place if packed in the evenings, pretty much always. Why? Friendly staff that remember regulars. Great drinks and food... in most cases you can just split a dinner their, they are huge. The molcajete stew is one of the best things I've ever eaten, and during happy hour I'm a sucker for the shrimp and chorizo street tacos. So why isn't this a 5? I really want to give it that but occasionally service can be very, very slow. Generally we eat in the bar so it's usually good, but the restaurant half can be ridiculous sometimes. If they can improve this then I would happily knock this to a 5.

  • Shannon D.

I've been here twice, both times for dinner. The service was alright, if a bit slow. The margarita I had was phenomenal, but my food was mediocre both times. The chips and salsa are fine, but the entrees left much to be desired. The portions were large, which I would have appreciated if the food tasted like something other than cilantro. The second time I was here, I ordered my tacos without cilantro, and they showed up heaped with it anyway. After picking off as much as I could, my food was bland. The drinks are the only thing about this place I would recommend.

Last week I went into Moctezuma's restaurant after being out of town for some time, what I found was disturbing. It was sad to see what appears in my opinion to the business being driven into the ground. I was informed that Bernie the son was now running that restaurant and his life partner Daniel was now the regional manager. I was also sad to see that my favorite bartender, Izzy was fired under suspicious circumstances. To go along with what I saw and learned, the food was sub par and seemed like it was from a chain, no personal touch. I said it before, and I will say it again, Moctezumas was much better when it was on the other side of Point Fosdick and the parents were running it. It will be a sad day if the restaurant fails at the hand of the kids.

One of my favorite Mexican restaurants of all time! Everywhere I travel I find myself eating at a Mexican restaurant. Since moving to Washington, I've tried at least 5 Mexican restaurants and this one surpasses all of them by far. The food is great. The atmosphere is even better! I love the fire pits that are throughout the restaurant. Also, you can't beat their amazing cocktails that have zero preservatives. Highly recommend!

This place has a whole lot of wrong going on. The service was terrible. The waitress waited far too long before returning to our table all throughout the meal. After we got our menus, it was probably another good 20 minutes before she returned to ask us what we wanted. And then she forgot to bring my husband his beer. There was a piece of paper towel in our salsa. And I don't mean a miniscule piece either. It was a very large piece, probably about an inch wide and 3 inches long. There were 5 of us and we were at a little table that would have been crowded for 3. And the food was really bad. I had a chicken enchilada and a chicken tamale. The enchilada had no flavor, it tasted like it could've been a frozen entree out of the supermarket. I could only eat one bite of the tamale it was so bad. And I LOVE beans and rice at Mexican restaurants. I didn't think you could mess those two up. But you can and they did.

My sister and I came here for lunch with our 2 daughters after an afternoon filled with school shopping. We were seated quickly and I loved the ambiance of the resturant! We were promptly brought chips and salsa....it was decent, kind of reminded me of Chevy's salsa, not the "best" but for some reason very addictive. When the waiter arrived to take our drink order I requested lemons for my water, my sister and the kids got soda. Almost 15 minutes later no one was bringing us our drinks! We finally flagged down a busser and asked if they could check on our drinks and bring some bean dip for the girls. The sodas came, no lemons or bean dip, *sigh*. We saw the waiter headed our way but he wasn't making eye contact with us and checked on the two booths behind us before disappearing again! He finally came to take our order and brought some bean dip...still no lemons, I gave up asking. We ordered the girls some kids meals, and my sister and I both got combinations. The mexican city taco was delicious and very fresh tasting. Per the menu I thought it came with guac but I was just given a side of cilantro and lime. I also go another hardshell taco (dorado taco?) It was pretty good, maybe a little greasy and too much shell for my taste. I'd eat it again but can't say it takes the title of "best taco". I did like that they give you the option to order pinto beans ranchero style vs refried, those were good! As soon as our food was delivered I asked for the check because service had been so spotty I didn't want to finish the meal and wait forever for the check. He promptly dropped it off, and then took about 15 more minute to swing back by and pick up the payment. I would probably have given this a 4/5 star if we had a better server. Worth checking out....unless you're in a hurry!!!

We went to this restaurant on Saturday night.... and they were packed. But, sitting there, waiting almost 10 minutes before we are asked for our drink order is frustrating. And we were sitting right outside the kitchen, so the staff (including our waiter) were right there, chatting with each other. I ordered their butternut squash taquitos off of the appetizer menu. We really liked them. I'm a big fan of that particular squash. For dinner, I went with their Creamy Poblano chicken enchilada plate. It looked great, and tasted good...... that is until my first bite came with a HUGE chicken bone. We let another waitress know, and she was apologetic. I continued eating my chicken, trying to watch for bones. I got a little over half way through my first enchilada, to find another bone.... this one ended up in my mouth. Needless to say, I wasn't happy. When our waiter came by, he asked how our meals were, other than the bones. Not a "I'm sorry about this" but that comment in it's place. Our waiter took the plate and had a second plate made up. I'd lost my appetite by this point, so I told him to box it up. The manager walked by, several times..... and finally stopped by with the check, informing us that my meal was removed from the ticket. That was the only saving grace, and the reason why I give this two stars instead of one. Both my mothers and my wife's plates were good, and they left satisfied. Other than the bones in my meal, we were all put off by the amount of "screwing around" by the staff, right outside of the kitchen doors.... with a FULL restaurant. They were laughing, dancing, blocking the door, eating chips and not paying attention to the customers. That, in my opinion, is extremely bad business. I understand that we all need time to unwind... but, you have customers to tend to.

Superb as always! Hands down best Mexican restaurant in town! I ventured away from my traditional order of chimichangas del mar and got sirloin steak tacos this time. They were delicious!

Service: Extremely poor for 2PM on a Saturday Food: I got the Original Chile Rellenos and they were disappointing. The batter was super soggy, making them unappealing. I did not finish them. Drinks: I got the Acapulco Margarita, which was tasty and not overpriced. The interior and ambiance of the place is great. I think I will end up giving this place another shot, but not anytime in the near future.

Nice bar and great atmosphere. A bit pricey for the quality of food, not very authentic. Staff friendliness and service isn't as good as other mexican places in town. Although carne Asada, and bacon wrapped jalapeño poppers are quite good. Only reason I wouldn't rate it two stars is because they make good drinks.

Our waitress was great, very attentive and accommodating, she liked her job and we could tell. GF got the chimeechongo, it was bigger than her head, I was told it tasted great and she devoured the salsa and pica da gallo. I got a combo burrito and a pork tamale, both great but the tamale was the best I've had. All the meat was very well seasoned as it was cooked I was impressed. My only complaint is "its too much food", if in the neighborhood again we'll return.

Had dinner here with a friend last night. Got put in the tiny corner booth directly underneath the service station-AKWARD...service was ok, food was great as usual, although it took a while to arrive. The rest of the experience is non-descript, until my friends ticket included a side of guacamole that she never got. When we mentioned this to our waiter, a melt-down ensued! By our waiter! He snatched the ticket from her, stomped off saying he would fix it, then proceeded to huff back & forth between the dining room & kitchen for about 10 minutes, before returning with the correct ticket, mumbling that he had fixed it, no apology offered ( actually his fit was so dramatic we were almost certain we owed HIM an apology!!) not quite sure what to make of this, just be forewarned when ordering sides!

Awesome ambiance and food! A great place to go to take friends and visitors! They have a few lighter dishes and options on the menu for those watching their weight/nutrition (but you have to look for them). As a dietitian, this is important to me. Warning: Traditionally, Mexican places offer huge platters and this one is no exception. Sharing is a good idea. Customer service, was excellent so any petty, nit-picky concerns we had were addressed. We look forward to going again, when they have their fireplaces lit!

Honestly we were expecting another Mexican-themed chain restaurant. You know, where the blue eyed-blonde hostess says "Hola Amigos" as she greets you. We were pleasantly surprised. The service was prompt and good (and no fake accents). The food was excellent! We ordered a combination plate with a tamale and enchilada and a carne asada. Most tamales that you get at "Mexican" restaurants are a part of a teaspoon of chewy meat wrapped in some tasteless dough. Not here. The tamale was a delicious corn-flavored dough surrounding some delicious flavored meat. What a great surprise! Carne asada was a tender marinated skirt steak cooked to a perfect medium rare, unlike the flavored shoe leather one usually gets. We'll be back!

Excellent tequila choices & service ! Food is tasty, much more flavor than most places in the area! The happy hour has lots of options - we had the Asparagus Asado - pow!! Shrimp & Chorizo Mexico City Tacos ...yummy! Bartender hand muddled a special fresh lime Hornitos margarita for us !!

A great new/old restaurant in the Harbor. They moved from across the street and left everything old behind. Fabulous tequila bar, great drinks and great food. My favorite are the Mexico City tacos in the bar during happy hour. Been there 8-10 times and never disappointed. Fresh chips, salsa and fast friendly service is why I continue to go back.

Love coming to this place!!! The environment is modern & fun! Great food and service every time we've come in. We love eating in the bar--awesome happy hour prices & menu! As for food you must try the Molcajete---deliciouso!!! The jalapeno margarita is my favorite!!!

Food & service & presentation excellent. Come before 6pm especially Friday or Saturday. 10-15 min wait turned into 30-35min for 2 people. There are 2 really small tables right where people walk into the dining area to the right. Dont get seated there. The rest of the seating looks comfortable but that was very uncomfortable! They should only put one person there! Better yet...take those wobbly tables away. Very disappointed! For such a nice place to squeeze people in....not very good sense. Looks like they just want to squeeze as many in as they can.

Moctezuma's has been a childhood favorite of mine ever since they opened their doors to the families in Gig Harbor. Compared to the 'other' Mexican restaurant in Gig Harbor, this one's location was awesome, salsa incredible, and servers ringing with personality. I'll always have wonderful memories of the older location, as that's where Moctezuma's earned its place in my heart. I want to start by saying that I'm no longer a local to these parts. I'm currently residing in California these days, where Mexican food is just about on every corner - whether it's in a truck, a small taqueria, a cart, or a restaurant. Many say that Southern California has some of the best Mexican food you can find. And I'd resonate that sentiment. However, Moctezuma's can go head to head with most of those places and win the bout. It's just that good. And did I already imply that their salsa is incredible? Because I meant to say legendary. Everyone I know down in Los Angeles from the Harbor not only knows of Moctezuma's, but celebrates it. This new location is absolutely stunning. The decor is beautiful, and the service is wonderful. You can clearly tell that, even to this day, families around Gig Harbor fully embrace this business and its workers by packing the joint. They've made a great name for themselves throughout the last couple decades, and it shows. Last night, I ordered the two-combination plate with 1 tamales de pollo, and 1 tamales de puerco. I also got a Cadillac Margarita Grande to go with it. The food came fast, and it was alright. The masa felt a little bit drier than I usually get - probably because the tamales I usually buy in Los Angeles are greasier. But they were still good. A good thing about Moctezuma's is their friendly and fast service. However, I have to call it out - I do miss seeing the latino servers that used to work here. Maybe they still do, but I didn't see any familiars anywhere, which was a shame. I only see the Spanish speaking workers bussing the tables, refilling my water, and getting me more chips and salsa. The wait staff all seem to be caucasian now - which, let me say, is totally fine. But the latino staff formerly seen at Moctezuma's had so much personality oozing all over the place, that it made it one of the best restaurants to dine at in Gig Harbor. I just didn't see that last night from any server working there. The wait staff felt like any wait staff found at any restaurant. But perhaps that's just me. Maybe I'm just a fan of the way things used to be, and should just let the past go. I do miss the older spot, and hope that this new location can be better than the older location I remember. Last night, it wasn't better - though not bad at all. But that could've been the case at any establishment just by statistics alone. Not everyone can be perfect every single time. I wish you guys the best. You may even get a call from me in the future to ship some of that amazing salsa my way. :-) Best of luck in your new location.

I've given this restaurant three chances and have been increasingly disappointed...we won't go back for lunch or dinner. I don't know why it's crowded other than the fact that it's kind of new & we're all tired of the burger place across the street.

Wow! Where to begin?! Moctezumas has been a favorite of our families for a long time....this new location just gives us even more reason to love them! They have done an excellent job of blending classic Mexican family favorites with new menu additions for those wanting something a little different. Then there's the atmosphere...LOVE it!! The owners went above & beyond when designing the new place. It's the type of restaurant I love to bring my kids for a family dinner in the dining room, but also the perfect spot to gather with friends or a date night with my hubby in the bar. Some of my favorites: Carne Adobada, Steak Picado, Camarones al Mojo de Ajo, the Torta off of the bar menu (we had the Carne Asada version..an excellent new menu addition!) and you can never go wrong with their Fajitas! Oh & the "house dressing" may as well be called Mexican crack sauce! I get a side of it with everything...tastes like a jalapeño ranch type combo & it is amazing! As far as drinks, I absolutely love the new coconut vodka cocktail! The only negative to all of this is that if I ate there as much as I really wanted (everyday!!) it would not be too good for my figure...but then again they do have some amazing "lighter" salads on the menu...;-) No such thing as too much Moctezumas!

Based on pretty good reviews we decided to try this place out. Our first visit the service was TERRIBLE. We waited for 20 minutes to even be acknowledged and put in our drink order and appetizer. Then another 15 minutes to order our food (which we were prepared to order with the appetizer but wanted our app first). After waiting even longer our appetizer finally arrives, and of course our meals seconds later. So we couldn't even enjoy our appetizer. Because I was very pleased with the food and I understand sometimes people have bad days, I talked my husband into going again. Our second visit we had pretty good service and the food was just as good as our first visit. At that point, I was so glad I gave this place another chance. I thought I had finally found my new favorite Mexican restaurant. Mexican food is our favorite and we tend to eat it at least once a week, so of course we returned a week later. And somehow the service was worse than the first visit! The chip guy was super helpful and got us drinks since we were waiting so long...but the server was awful. It should not be a 2 1/2 hour dining experience at a Mexican Restaurant. I am extremely disappointed that they can't find better staff since I really enjoyed their food. We will not be returning.

Food was good, but they put WAY to much cheese over the top of the enchiladas, burritos, etc. Portions are HUGE. Even the kids. Sharing is good here. All the food was good, but I didn't like that the black beans came in a pot of the black bean water. It was hard to fish out the beans. Haha. Also: our server was a little awkward, didn't smile much, but still polite. Overall, it was an average experience with good food.

This place has terrible food. I will never understand why they can fill the place. I never liked it much at the old location, but someone recommended the shrimp fajita for this place and it did well when I had not much choice but to go there. The newer location is nice and they did a great job on the interior. The first time I went to the new place, the food was actually really good and the service was fantastic. Ever since then though, it has gotten worse and worse (for the most part, but there have been a few servers that are excellent). The last time I went was for Taco Tuesday. I ordered a taco just to start and left after I tried to eat it. It was dry and cold. Service was terrible. The salsa is consistently bland and the chips have lately been stale. I still give it another chance once in awhile only because some person might suggest meeting there. Also, it stays open a little later than some in the harbor. I am a huge fan of tortilla soup and this place brings shame to it. It's awful. I even gave it a second and third chance! And I could go on about other menu items. I still say, if you go here, order the shrimp fajita. It is tasty and I will even bring home the leftovers, but I am not a big shrimp eater...I like the shaker margaritas, but that is the only reason why I'd pick Moctezumas over Taco Time. There are many other, way better, Mexican restaurants in the harbor to choose from.

Pros: *All around best place to eat in Gig Harbor* 1. Breathtaking Décor/Atmosphere. This ambiance is transcending. You could be anywhere; a Mexican vacation, a trendy metropolitan hotspot or just a hot date night in Gig Harbor! 2. Service! Warm, personable and friendly. Staff takes extra care to personalize your food and drinks to your liking (they added heat to my hubby's Molcajete to perfection). 3. Food! The new menu items are a culinary delight! Shrimp/Chorizo tacos melted in my mouth. Perfect mix of exciting, forefront menu items along with delicious tried and true meals. 4. The drinks! Oh me, oh my! Let's start with the Blackberry Margarita; it was a party in my mouth for real! Jalapeno Margarita was a great mix of wet and spice. The coconut water cocktail was my favorite; I think I had two or more. It was addictive and very refreshing! 5. The Bar! Sexy, amazing lighting, dark booths. Great flat screen tvs. Gorgeous details! 6.Very family friendly! 7. The bathrooms are even stunning! Cons: 1. If I went here every day I would be a lush and probably weigh 1,000 lbs. I better keep it to once a week!

Wow! So we come to this restaurant at least twice a month NO LONGER! We came in today and ordered our regular molcajetes which has great flavor but they only brought 3 tortillas out with it when I asked for more they informed me that they are now charging 50 cents per extra tortilla! Crazy. I was able to look past the lack in service and the fact they don't even give you beans with your chip's but 50 cents per tortilla is nuts. The meal we get cost around $20 and the extra 50 cents isn't much it's just principle. So I hope for the extra $1.50 they made they lost a return customer.

The atmosphere is great. There are lots of comfy booths, which I always appreciate, but they also have neat tables with great looking chairs. The lights and other decorations are beautiful and add to the overall appeal. They provide soft light at night that creates a cozy atmosphere without the blaring light of bare bulbs or fluorescence or too soft with just candles. They are also beautiful when they're not being used. Someone was very thoughtful with their choices. Now to the most important part- the food. Not to be one of those people, but after moving here from San Diego, the Mexican food in WA generally just doesn't compare. But this is fantastic! I had the poblano chicken enchiladas and would definitely recommend them! I've had the enchiladas rancheros as well, and while they were good, they were missing something. The chips and salsa were fresh, tasty, and plentiful. I enjoyed a mixed berry pina colada as well, but I prefer a sweeter mix with a top quality spiced rum (picky? maybe). This is now our go-to place when we want Mexican food. We had great service from our waitress as well as any staff who noticed that we needed something from chips to drink refills. Entrees were about $10-15, my drink was $7.50, and appetizers were $5-10. My only real issue is that there is not a lot of parking for how popular this place is! There are plenty of options close by, but their lot is on the smaller side and caused a little bit of confusion for some, um, older patrons when I came to pick up a take out order one night.

Normally I would five star this restaurant. Absolutely love the food and service in the past. This past Saturday I took my Son and grandchildren (party of six) to dinner. We were seated at the firepit table. Food was fantastic once again. Our female server was not. She served my drink a grand rita over my granddaughters head was irritated but said nothing. The server once again tried to hand me my hot dish dinner over my granddaughters head across the table instead of coming to my side of the table to serve me. I asked her not to, told her I was one handed she refused to accommodate me and my daughter-inlaw help me get my dinner plate over my granddaughters head down safely. I wrote my displeasure which reflected my tip on the receipt. Ruin my night that the server would risk my granddaughter getting burn to be a lazy server. Would love to hear from management.

I wanted to update my post because I have been back several times since my previous post. I have to say they have a great happy hour and fun staff in the bar. I haven't been in the dining room since, not that I am a drunk or anything, but that seems to be where we flock when we go. I went recently on Wednesday May 8, 2013 and I had their Veggie Burrito which was AMAZING! I'm still sticking to I think their guacamole is from Costco, but I'm not going to hold that against them. I will be ordering that again for sure. I am happy that they have non meat options there that are actually good to eat. I also had their red sangria to drink and it was delicious. I am happy to have given it a new chance and I will return many more times.

Overrated. More of a "chain" feel. Not too authentic. Massive portions, all very bland. Service was just OK. Pricey. There are better mexican options downtown. We won't be back.

They have done a great job with the move/remodel/design of this location. The place looks fantastic. The food is decent, but not nearly as flavorful as El Pueblito in the downtown area. However, it is much nicer and cleaner inside and I would be much more inclined to bring people here to hang out if tasty food wasn't my only priority.

This newly re- opened restaurant in Gig Harbor is the best!!! They have a lot of new and original menu items to offer, but still have everyones old favorites.... The scene is very fun and upbeat with a much needed hip atmosphere for this growing community....Every time I go there, I try something new and am never disappointed....If you have to wait for a table, well then I definitely would! It will be worth it.... The bar is also quite large, so there is always a chance of getting a seat there..... I have gotten in right away almost every time..Enjoy!!

I have been here at least a dozen times not including to go and have never had any major issues with the food or service.. Sometimes the tortilla soup isn't hot enough to melt the cheese which is really my only complaint.. That and you might get ignored up front as it is frequently left unattended or staff is "too busy" to care.. Portions are on the large size and if you order the fajita plan on it being plenty enough for 2 people.. Prices are great especially when you consider what a nice atmosphere your dining in.. How awesome that they are open late with happy hour prices every night after 9! I'm talking strictly food here, not drinks.. Lunch prices are also very reasonable.. Gig Harbor people are spoiled and complain too much haha I mean whats not to love about Moctezuma's? Definitely my favorite non authentic Mexican spot! An awesome addition to the harbor and good riddance to Harbor Monsoon ;)

Best Mexican food place in Gig Harbor, if you have the money to spend. They are a little expensive but their portions are ridiculous and they know how to cook authentic Hispanic food. Being Hispanic, I know authentic Hispanic food when I taste because I grew up with it. So I give this place mad props staying with the basics but making them very modern with new twists! Maybe I'll go back on a payday

Went with friends on a Saturday night. Were told it would be a 15 minute wait but lucked out to find a table in the bar. It is loud, but friendly. Margarita was OK. My chili relleno was pretty good, and my friends vegetarian burritos were great. For a big place it was good. I'd probably go back.

They are new and very busy. This may be why their kitchen staff don't quite have it together yet. After two attempts my Chili Rellenos were still not hot. Service was adequate. Might be my imagination, but the tacoma location is better.

Had a wonderful lunch today. The staff was so professional, and on top of everything. They. Refilled my drink even. Before it was empty. The manager was making sure that everyone got top service. The restaurant decor so wonderful. A firepitinside makes it feel warm and cozy. It is nice to see a Mexican restaurant that is decorated with higher end decor rather than sombreros and tucans. I had Pablo burritos , For $8.49 And they were pretty good. The staff and atmosphere make this restaurant ,and not half bad food makes it even better.

My family and I have been here several times now since their remodel. We can all agree that it is incredibly beautiful, and a wonderful addition to Gig Harbor's limited restaurant listings. Right after the restaurant re-opened, it seemed that the staff was really on top of things. The manager was frequently seen making rounds each night asking guests if they were enjoying their meals. I'd heard that this restaurant was the lesser of the two Mexican places in town because of the food, but for the first few times we tried it, the food was fabulous! We loved everything we tried. However, even in this short time, it has gone way down in our opinion. I usually get the same order now, and each time, it has different ingredients. Something always seems to be missing, and never the same thing. I now feel like saying something like, "Oh, your cook forgot the red onions this time!" Or, "Gee, someone left off the corn..." But that would be a bit embarrassing! Now that the shine is off of its new decor, even the service is not great: the waiter didn't get our order correct, and seemed miffed that we weren't thrilled when the food arrived not as requested--we had asked for no sour cream, and the guac on the side. It arrived with sour cream on the side, and the guac right on the top. We didn't complain, just sighed and ate it anyway. Two of our family members ordered the same dish, and one person got 2/3 less than the other. We couldn't believe the difference in amounts--and that they would think it is ok to serve food that way to the same table. Didn't they think we would notice that one person got more than twice as much as the other? We do love Mexican food, and will probably be back, but definitely not as often. We do hope that they stop relaxing and get back to offering really great food and service to match their beautiful decor. Guess we'll have to go back to Il Pueblito!

I am EXTREMELY upset with my experience tonight at the gig harbor location. I had 3 to-go orders tonight that were all screwed up! I had the girl Natalie read the order back to me after putting it in and she read it back correct but upon receiving it they were all wrong. The first issue was that I was over charged for an extra order of rice and beans that she did not mention when she was reading back my order. So I called back and let her know she said I could come back and they'd give me the cash back and not to worry. I was okay with it they were apologetic. Then the 2nd order was messed up- we asked specifically for no meat/chicken because my employee is allergic to it and lo and behold there was chicken, called back and told them what had happened and they said sorry and they'd remake it so I kept my temper then. But the last straw was the 3rd order, chicken tortilla soup, large ONLY HALF FULL- I mean COME ON! Don't cover a Styrofoam container with tin foil and put it in a bag without warning everyone- it spilled out in the bag and my other employee had little to no dinner because of this. So when we came back to get the correct meal for the enchiladas and the cash back for the overcharge and then given attitude about "waiting for us" when I specifically told them we were busy at our place of work that we took time out of to patronize their business. And that I wouldn't be able to get my refund until way later. My employees frequent your restaurant and a lot of our members (1600 plus people) ask us for restaurant referrals and if this isn't rectified with a better apology and at least something for the troubles I will not be comfortable telling them to visit your restaurant. We work in the customer service industry as well and when someone complains the first time we apologize and offer something for their troubles IN ADDITION to fixing our mistake. This was not the case with your staff.

Since writing this review, I had a neighbor that had an industrial size staple in her food. HMMM, I might think twice before going here again.

Bf and I went here about 20mn before kitchen was closing at the tail end of happy hour. They rebuilt the location and it looks great! He had a daiquiri that was delish! I had the chicken taquitos, which looked really good. Until I ate them. The meat was dry =/ Bummer. But I ate them because just dip them in the sour cream and the issue was solved. He had the flautas and since I was hoping his would be better than mine, in fact they were amazing! I ended up eating more of his flautas than my taquitos! I've also had other good from there in which was delicious, but first time at the Gig Harbor location. Will go back, and make sure to order the flautas instead.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
